About this domain
Since 2010, the Agency has prepared the implementing rules, acceptable means of compliance to the implementing rules (AMC) and related guidance material (GM) for the aerodrome domain. At the same time, the aerodrome team at EASA prepared the certification specifications (CS) for aerodrome design, based on annex 14 of ICAO.
In terms of Commission Regulation (EU) No 139/2014, we are covering and further developing the following areas:
- aerodrome design and safety-related equipment*;
- aerodrome operations, including apron management services and groundhandling;
- aerodrome operators;
- aerodrome oversight authorities.
For a more detailed overview over all the EASA rulemaking tasks related to aerodromes you can refer to the current European Plan for Aviation Safety (EPAS).
As of 2018, the section is also conducting standardisation visits to the EASA member states and eventually also those who have a working arrangement with Europe. This work is based on Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 628/2013, as it is in all other areas, where EASA conducts standardisation visits.
Safety promotion material for aerodromes can be found on the EASA Air Community Site. One of the most recent safety implementation activities for the aerodromes community has been the development of the Global Action Plan for the Prevention of Runway Excursions (GAPPRE) and you can find out more about this initiative on the Runway Excursions page on the Air Ops Community.
* for the definition of the aerodromes falling in the scope of EASA, please refer to Article 2(1)(e) of Regulation (EU) 2018/1139
