Webinar: EASA Project Update — Detection of Lithium Batteries using Security Screening Equipment
Online event10/09/2024, 14:00 - 16:00 CET (UTC +2)
Description
This webinar is organised to present an update of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency's Research Project "Detection of Lithium Batteries using Security Screening Equipment".
In December 2022, EASA appointed a Consortium to deliver a research study for the specific case of detecting lithium batteries in checked baggage. The main objective of the project is to evaluate the feasibility of the detection of lithium batteries transported as checked baggage, using existing security screening equipment and processes in operation at airports. This study is essential in determining whether existing airport screening equipment can reliably identify these items without adversely affecting the existing security processes, thereby improving passenger safety and compliance with international safety standards.
In July 2024, a live airport trial was conducted to test the algorithm, which was observed by EASA. During this webinar, we will present the findings from the trial.
Detection of Lithium Batteries using Security Screening Equipment is a Research Project funded from the European Union's Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Programme. Read more on the Project's tasks and deliverables.
