This task concerns the maintenance of Regulation (EU) No 1178/2011 and Regulation (EU) No 2015/340 on medical certification requirements for aircrew and air traffic controllers (ATCOs) respectively, and the related oversight.
There are several reasons for regular updates, including the need:
to address a number of medical-certification issues identified on a regular basis by national competent authorities (NCAs) and industry;
to amend the corresponding implementing rules of Annex VI (Part-ARA) to Regulation (EU) No 1178/2011 and the related AMC & GM.
In this context, this rulemaking task (RMT) addresses various non-controversial issues: some may be directly driven by safety, while others may be primarily driven by other factors, such as ensuring that the regulatory framework is fit for purpose, ensures a level playing field and reduces complexity.
Additionally, this RMT aims to also implement the results of EASA research projects related to aero-medical certification of aircrew and ATCOs.
To this end, this RMT is intended to regularly address miscellaneous issues in the medically relevant requirements of Regulation (EU) No 1178/2011 and Regulation (EU) 2015/340 to ensure that the requirements are fit for purpose, evidence-based, cost-effective and can be smoothly implemented.
