EASA provides technical support to the European Commission and Member States in order to inform policy-making discussions and decisions. Topics include aircraft noise and emissions standards, modelling / forecasting and market based measures. In particular, we collect noise information to support the implementation of the Balanced Approach Regulation (EU) 598/2014. We also support other EU Agencies, such as the European Chemicals Agency on the REACH regulation.
In addition, we fund, steer and monitor research projects in the field of aviation and environment. This includes research projects managed by the European Commission, such as the development of a new European helicopter noise model based on a comprehensive noise measurement campaign. The list of EASA-funded research projects on environment can be found here.
