SC-216 / WG-72 Plenary & Information Security Standards Updates

The RTCA Special Committee (SC)-216 joint plenary meeting with EUROCAE Working Group (WG)-72 took place in Washington DC, USA on 24-28 June.

The plenary allowed progress in developing and updating a number of standards in the wider field of Aeronautical Information Security, ranging from product level to Event Management and Information Security Management Systems (ISMS). In particular, the new version of the ED-202 standard on "Airworthiness Security Process Specification" has been consolidated and soon ED-202B will be published. This new version incorporates expert knowledge gained from several years of practical experience in achieving cybersecurity objectives for product certification.

Moreover, WG-72 and SC-216 have in their work programmes the objective to publish and aviation ISMS standard by the beginning of 2025. EASA is providing active support to ensure that the work of the working group is consistent and meets the needs of European industry and regulators.

In addition to the ISMS, there are other tasks such as ISEM (Information Security Event Management) and Data Security, which are expected to provide guidance on end-to-end data security.
