In accordance with the Basic Regulation the Agency may launch and finance research projects in its field of competence which are safety and environmental protection. This provides the Agency with a solid scientific knowledge basis for its policy, strategy and decisions. In performing this crosscutting task the Research Management Section coordinates the identification of the Agency's research needs, prioritises research project proposals, manages the tendering procedure and supervises the progress of launched projects. Calls for tenders are published by Procurement Department
Furthermore the Agency coordinates through the Research Management Section its research and development activities with the European Commission, Member States and others. A European Aviation Research Partnership Group (EARPG) has been established to support this coordination activity.
